A Sampling

Inspired by Kayleen, here's an example of what happens when we've been inside together far too long:

Hannah: (holding up a Kellogg's Tony the Tiger cookie jar) What's his name?
Sarah: Tony.
Hannah: What? Tony?
Sarah: Yeah. Tony the Tiger. He's grrreat!
Hannah: Tony? but that's so silly! it's like a foot name!
(get it!? toe-ny!)

------------------------------------------------

Hannah: Arrrgh! We found the buried treasure!
Sarah: Arrrgh captain Hannah! What's in the chest?
Sam: Garrr Matey!
Hannah: Jools and pretty things!!!
Sarah: Just what a girl pirate captain wants! Arrrgh!
Sam: Garrr Matey! GAARRRRR Matey!
Richard: Arrrg! Hand over that treasure! I'm Captain Crunchin' Numbers and that booty's 98% mine!
Sam: Garrrrrrrrrrr Matey!

Trust me...

The infamous (that means really, really famous) Nickel duo! Sarah didn't steal all her insanity, she came by it honestly! She got a little from her dad, and a lot from her mom...

(No, this is not a recent picture. It's from three years ago, when it actually snowed in Memphis. We spent the entire day sledding, all of us, on the golf course behind my parent's house.)

Pup, the super-puppy

Matt and Treesa Gold came to visit a couple weeks ago (YEAH!!). We always like seeing our favorite people.

Rubeus and Ringo came too, the legendary canine duo from Virginia. To help Hannah and Sam remember the visit, Treesa gave each of them a toy puppy. Hannah has since named hers "Pup" and takes it with her everywhere.

Yesterday Pup learned to fly in circles, lassoed with a pink leash.

the after-bath

It is a long-standing tradition in our house that after bath-time Hannah and Sam get to remain wrapped up in their towels and watch a show on TV.

This is understandably more fun in the summertime. Now that it is winter, I wrap them up in our huge, warm, cuddly comforter as well.

It's quiet...too quiet

Today I made the fatal parenting error of assuming the best while my kids played quietly. "Such wonderful kids I have," thought I, snuggled deep in my blanket, "playing together so sweetly, so innocently, that I am given a moment to enjoy the morning's solitude. Listen. They're pretending like it's snowing. How nice."

Ah.

Well, they were playing together sweetly, but not innocently. It turns out they were playing with one of Hannah's Christmas gifts- a porcelain nativity set carefully packaged in styrofoam. And it was snowing that Christmas day, long ago:

There is styrofoam everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Hannah later explained "but mom, we just love making a mess!"
